The Alhambra Palace, Granada
A World Heritage site and listed as one those must see places! Situated on a hill overlooking Granada, the Alhambra is a sprawling palace-citadel. This comprises of; royal residential quarters; court complexes flanked by official chambers; a bath and a Mosque. The palace was begun in the thirteenth century by Ibn al-Ahmar, founder of the Nasrid dynasty, and was continued by his successors in the fourteenth century. Its most celebrated portions are a series of courtyards surrounded by rooms presenting a varied repertoire of Moorish architecture. The romantic imagination of centuries of visitors has been captivated by the special combination of the slender columnar arcades, fountains, and light-reflecting water basins found within each courtyard. The Lion Court is said to be a physical realisation of Paradise, as described within Islamic poetry. This is well worth a visit and Granada is worth a look too. Malaga
It is easy to understand why Malaga City is dubbed the Capital of the Costa del Sol. Since the opening the now acclaimed Picasso Museum in 2003, tourists have been flocking to this and the beautifully refurbished birthplace of the great artist, all neatly located in the heart of the historic city centre. As well as homage to the great Picasso, other great historic monuments include the imposing Baroque Cathedral, popularly known as ‘La Manquita’ (One Armed Woman), referring to its rather lopsided appearance due to the missing east bell tower. High on the hill above the city is the Parador (state run hotel) of great historic importance. It was once a Moorish castle and is a wonderful place to either stay the night or have a long lunch enjoying these privileged surroundings with panoramic views over Malaga city.

The subject of repeated conquest and sieges, Gibraltar has been a British Territory since 1704 and ceded forever to Britain by Spain in the Treaty of Utrecht (1713). The locally elected Government of Gibraltar has created a solid economy in offshore finance, shipping, tourism and the Internet rather than the military past. Cigarettes, spirits and road fuel are all duty free and there is even a Morrison’s Superstore! There is much for the tourist to see, along with the dolphins and the famous apes.

Frigiliana
Voted the 'prettiest village in Andalucía' by the Spanish tourism authority, Frigiliana is also important from an historical viewpoint. El Fuerte, the hill that climbs above the village, was the scene of the final bloody defeat of the Moors of La Axarquía in their 1569 rebellion. The village is a tangle of narrow cobbled streets lined by whitewashed houses, their wrought-iron balconies filled with planters of brilliant red geraniums. Small plazas provide shady seating while the village bars are popular with visitors who come here to taste the locally produced wine. There are also several excellent shops selling pottery and ceramics, including decorative plates with their distinctive Arab design. more

Salares
Salares is situated on a hilltop, between two riverbeds and amidst high mountains. Its position has conditioned the form that the village has taken. This means that there is no square in the centre and the streets are short and steep, most of them being formed by steps because of the tremendous differences in level. The houses are extraordinarily beautiful; some of them are whitewashed and others are decorated with tiles depicting different religious images and the Way of the Cross. Calle Puente is the flattest one in the village; it leads to the surrounding area, on the eastern slopes, and to the Roman Bridge, which still crosses over the River Salares, a water course which used to link up to the mule tracks to Alhama De Granada. The name of the village is Latin in origin and comes from "Salaria Bastitanorum," due to the existence of salt beds in the surrounding area at one time. more

Sedella
Sedella is one of the 31 towns and villages that make up the Ruta Mudéjar, in the Axarquía region. It borders with the municipalities of Alhama de Granada, Canillas de Albaida, Salares, Arenas and Canillas de Aceituno. The mountains drop abruptly to the vicinity of the village, but not before forming deep ravines in which, terrain permitting, there are small pine groves that soften the geographic harshness of the surroundings. Beginning at the village the landscape becomes gentler and one begins to see houses scattered about on some of the hills and brushy areas, fields and pastures alternate with lush, green pinewoods. It has a small number of bars and restaurants that serve authentic Spanish food. more
